Seville ranks sixth at 15.7°C daytime high, tied with Limassol, yet its monthly mean is just 10.7°C — the coldest of any city here, and 5.0°C below its own daytime high, the largest gap on the table. Nicosia falls furthest of the ten — a 6.4°C drop from November (21.8°C) to January (15.4°C) — while Las Palmas eases down just 3.0°C over the same span (21.7°C to 18.7°C). Sunshine and rain beyond temperature

Temperature alone hides real differences at these numbers. Las Palmas leads on daytime high and also gets the most January sunshine here (216 hr) on the least rain among the top three (44 mm) — genuinely the best all-round pick, not just the warmest-sounding one. Alicante is the driest city in the ranking at 24 mm despite sitting mid-table on temperature; Paphos is the wettest at 127 mm, over five times Alicante's total, with the lowest sunshine of any Cypriot city tracked (164 hr).

Ranked by outdoor-comfort hours instead of temperature, the order shifts. Alicante and Limassol swap places — Limassol's extra rain costs more comfortable hours than its temperature edge buys back — and Seville drops from sixth to eighth, confirming its diurnal swing doesn't translate into a comfortable full day. Las Palmas leads regardless of metric, the strongest case here for being the genuinely best pick, not just the warmest-sounding one.

Genuinely hot options outside Europe

January is Europe's coldest month, and 18.7°C is not swimming weather. The daytime high — the headline figure — comes from a native ~1 km CHELSA maximum-temperature grid with an ERA5 warming-trend uplift, calibrated to 2011–2025 normals. Monthly mean, sunshine, and rainfall use CHELSA v2.1 and SARAH-3 satellite sunshine data on the standard 1991–2020 climatology, calibrated against 219 WMO stations. We label each column separately rather than stamping the table with one date range.

Some January guides list Gran Canaria at 21°C or 22°C — a single number, unsourced, and 2–3°C above what GeoRank publishes. Our calibrated daytime high for the same city is 18.7°C: the difference between a quoted, rounded figure and a grid-computed value tied to a named dataset.
